covid-19 response

OUR RESPONSE TO COVID-19
We’re working closely with the Walla Walla Public Schools to support them in this difficult time.
8-13-2020: Until WWPS begins in-person instruction, Camp Fire will not provide After School Camp to the community.
Our main office is currently open via appointment only. If you need to come to the office in-person please call 509.525.3180. When you arrive please wait to be temperature checked at the door.
Like you, we are also doing our best to #flattenthecurve and help slow the spread of COVID-19 by heeding the advice from the global experts and the CDC. Because our first priority is the wellbeing, safety, and health of the young people we serve, our council has made the difficult decision to temporarily close our main office and staff is working from home.
work health love
Thank you for your continued support. We have been dedicated to helping young people connect with nature, learn life skills, and find true belonging for 110 years, and with you, will continue serving our communities for the next 100 years.

Camp Fire is excited to be able to get back to programming however we have had some changes as you might imagine. Camp Fire is considered Phase 3 in the Governor’s phases. We serve groups up to 50 with kids and counselors combined and we run programming in a City Park. Phase 3 is expected to begin on or around June 20th. Camp Fire has worked with Public Health to make sure that we open in a safe, timely manner. After discussions on safety and opening of the phases we have decided to open programming July 6th with significant changes. As you know Health and Safety of our youth is our number one priority. This in mind we have made the decision to cease the operation of Super Summer in the Park at Wildwood in Walla Walla for this summer only. This decision was based off safety factors for the youth we serve. Camp Fire has to have a back up plan for program if the air quality is poor; there is thunder and lightning or temperatures break 100’. Unfortunately, with the closure of schools and the strict guidelines at all facilities we do not have a safe place for children to go during adverse weather. Some other factors such as group sizes and personal protective equipment availability came into play once we received the guideline from the CDC.
Camp Fire has been running a Camp in College Place the last two summers in partnership with the City of College Place and Untied Way of Walla Walla. This will be our primary camp location this summer and will have some strict guidelines which I am listing for you below:
-
Masks will be worn by all staff if they come within 6 feet of campers
-
Hand sanitizer and hand washing like always will be a priority
-
There will be strict social distancing guidelines amongst groups
-
Children will be temperature checked and monitored upon drop off in the morning and through the day if necessary
-
Hours will be 8:00-4:00
-
40 Camper capacity
We are continuing to work with Walla Walla County Public Health and follow any of their recommendations, as things change, we will update our response accordingly and keep you in the loop. Camp Fire is following all American Camping Association and Center for Disease Control recommendations to the fullest. The link below is the CDC Decision -Making Tool we as staff and Board of Directors used to determine running Camp this summer.
Camp Fire will be working and answering calls in the office during our regular work hours 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4pm Friday beginning June 1st. There may be times when there is nobody present to answer a call, or we are on another line. Some staff will still be working remotely due to school closures and responsibilities at home. Please feel free to reach out to us at 509-525-3180 or simply email Keaton at janet@wwcampfire.org or Carly at carly@wwcampfire.org
